A Christian Theology of Religions in
Light of Hinduism

Tuesdays, 2.00pm - 3.00pm, commencing 29th April: Campion Hall, St Aldate's.
These lectures aim to delineate the methods and goals of a Christian theology of religions informed by the faith, practice, and theologies of another religious tradition. In the limited space of these lectures, the Christian tradition will be discussed primarily in its Roman Catholic form; (certain strands of) Hinduism will serve as the example of another religious tradition.
Lecture Schedule:
The Christian (especially Roman Catholic) theology of religions;
comparative theological study; the study of particular religious
traditions; Hindu theology.
Light on some Roman Catholic resources (historical): the missionary
tradition and views of the Other.
Light on some Roman Catholic resources (current): the legacy of
Vatican II; Dominus Iesus; J. Dupuis's Christianity and the Religions:
From Confrontation to Dialogue.
Apologetics: (classical and contemporary) resources toward a Hindu
theology of religions.
Revelation: divine communication with humans, and why it matters
in the Hindu and Christian traditions.
Creation: the enrichment of Christian experience of a created world
through complementary perspectives from the Vedantic tradition (Guest
lecturer: Rev. Robindra Martin Ganeri, O.P.).
Incarnation: the nature of Krishna's descents contributes to a clearer
understanding of the Incarnation of the Son.
Salvation: the Trinitarian God's saving action in light of Hindu
beliefs about divine action.
